Job description:
This is a pure new-business hunter role focused on driving growth within the industrial chemical solutions space, with a strong emphasis on paint pre-treatment and surface treatment applications.
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities - primarily large, complex deals (typically $150K+), often at a corporate or multi-site manufacturing level.
This is a newly structured position where the Business Development Manager does not inherit existing accounts. Instead, this individual is responsible for building a robust pipeline (targeting ~$4M) and closing new business (annual quota of ~$500K+).
Once business is secured, accounts are transitioned to Account Managers after approximately 12 months, allowing continued focus on new opportunity development and pipeline growth.
There is no fixed territory. While the Midwest (particularly the Illinois, greater Chicago, and Wisconsin region) represents a key area of focus due to market opportunity, candidates are encouraged to pursue business nationally - especially where they have existing relationships.
What Youll Be Selling- Pre-treatment chemicals (iron phosphate, zirconium, plating, etc.)
- Solutions tied to paint processes (e-coat, powder coating, anodizing)
- Full-service offerings supported by technical service and application expertise

- Background with leading providers such as Sherwin-Williams, Henkel, PPG Industries, Axalta Coating Systems, Chemetall, or similar organizations

- Established relationships within manufacturing, finishing, or coating environments
Additional Relevant Backgrounds (Also Considered)
- Experience in specialty chemical sales, including:
- Metalworking fluids and coolants
- Industrial cleaning or process chemicals
- Water treatment solutions
- Broader exposure to chemical applications within industrial manufacturing settings
Key Traits for Success
- Proven hunter with a track record of developing and winning new business
- Experience selling into manufacturing environments (automotive, metal fabrication, industrial, etc.)
- Ability to navigate long, complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders
- Strong pipeline management discipline, ideally with CRM tools such as Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Demonstrated success closing large, strategic deals (typically $150K+)
